In conjunction with the Hungry Ghost Festival, the Penang State Tourism Development and Culture office have organized a Photography Competition.

We believe that the colorful Hungry Ghost Festival is a good opportunity for photography lovers to take good and challenging photos.

The competition was opened trough out the month of August (the Hungry Ghost month) and the closing date was 9th of September. 47 beautiful photos were submitted. Yesterday, our professional team of judges, Mr Looi Teong Hong  from the Penang Photography Society, Ms Chew Win Win from KDU college and Mr. Mac Tan from Equator Academy managed to pick the best  of the best.

We hereby announce the winners:


1st prize:     Soon Jin Tek (RM 500 cash prize)

2nd prize:     Ong Chang Cheng  (RM300 cash prize)

3rd prize:     Lim Lean Eng (RM100 cash prize

Consolation Prizes:

1) Cheang Teik Heng (RM 50)
2) Chua Boon Keat  (RM 50)

The photos are all judged based on composition, skills and uniqueness.

The  Penang State Tourism Development and Culture office and Tiong Guan Association Penang organized various activities for the month of Hungry Ghost.

There were Chinese Opera and traditional puppet shows around the island. In addition to that there was also a 3-day festival at Padang Brown which has special prayers and the “Netherworld Tour”.
