This upcoming Round 6 Petronas Cub Prix that's happening in Batu Kawan Stadium this weekend is expected to draw in a massive crowd of two wheels motorsports-craze-fans from the northern region.

Two famous riders in this 2009 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship originates from this area, Md Faris Md Bajer (Champion for Round 6) and Md Azli Agil. Both riders have high hopes of stepping up the podium in this coming race because they believe they have the home-ground advantage.

At 1.264km, the Batu Kawan track consists of nine turns. It provides an excellent mix of challenge with its long stretch and mind-bending turns.

2009 marks the second year of Faris’s involvement in the Honda one make race. Last year he finished fifth in Batu Kawan and he was not pleased with the outcome. This year he is back, better and wiser and he hopes to finish the race with much better results. But at the same time he admits it’s not going to be easy because he finds the track to be quite technical. Another obstacle Faris will have to overcome are his talented rivals which he has high respects for.

“This is my second year racing at Batu Kawan. I have high hopes finishing on the podium or better yet, grab the chequered flag because I am quite familiar with the track. But it is not going to be a walk through the park because the turns are very challenging and the surface of the track is not that smooth.

Furthermore, I have to go toe to toe against other riders who are very competent, especially those in the top 10. Basically, I will need a full-proof strategy if I want to win in Batu Kawan,” said Fariz.

Azli couldn’t agree more on the subject. But he believes with enough preparation, he stands a 50-50 chance of winning. The young rider is determined to make full use of the advantage he has because Round 6 provides the perfect opportunity to improve his position in the Honda icon Challenge Cup overall standings.

“I will be sure to deliver nothing less than a 110 percent because Batu Kawan is my home track. This is the place where I carried out my training. It is also the opening for me to climb up the overall standings. If I succeed in getting on the podium for this round, I will be able to catch up and end this season among the top three,” said Azli.
