For shoppers who are looking for some loud excitement, be sure to catch the Annual Traditional Lion Dance Competition on 15 January, 3pm at Gurney Plaza. The 8thannual challenge to be held at the Kelawai Entrance of the complex, will see 10 top lion dance troupes from the northern region battle it out for trophies, cash prizes and glory.
This year, the troupes will be challenging each other for the Championship consisting cash prize of RM2, 000, Quick Cut cash voucher worth RM1, 200; Eu Yan Sang cash voucher worth RM1000, Kim Gary cash voucher worth for RM300 and a challenge trophy. The 1stRunner Up will receive cash prize of RM1, 200, Quick Cut cash voucher worth RM800; Eu Yan Sang  cash voucher worth RM800, Kim Gary cash voucher worth RM300 and a challenge trophy. The 2ndRunner Up will receive cash prize of RM800, Quick Cut cash voucher worth RM500; Eu Yan Sang  cash voucher worth RM700, Kim Gary cash voucher worth RM200 and a challenge trophy. Meanwhile, two Consolation Prize winners will bring back with them cash prize of RM500, Quick Cut cash voucher worth RM400; Eu Yan Sang  cash voucher worth RM600, Kim Gary cash voucher worth RM100 and trophy respectively. The remain finalists will receive cash prize of RM200, Quick Cut cash voucher worth RM300; Eu Yan Sang  cash voucher worth RM500, Kim Gary cash voucher worth RM100.

Prior to this Annual Lion Dance Competition, shoppers will be able to catch Traditional Wushu Competition on 15 January 2011, 10am-1pm (Semi Final), 7pm-10pm(Final), New Wing Atrium. Wushu is a Chinese Martial Art originated from China. Wushu can be used as a mean of self-defense or physical training. With attack and defense as its’ basic movements, Chinese traditional culture as the background, Wushu has grown to be a much anticipated sports event at international level.

The highlight of the month at Gurney Plaza will be the China Hebei Acrobatic & Aerial Troupe Performance that will be held at the New Wing Atrium from 22-30 January 2011. Show times are at 4pm & 7pm on weekends and  7pm on weekdays. The troupe from China will amaze you with their agility yet high energy performance such as ball juggling, rope tricks, plate spinning and the art of Aerial Swing, Rope & Static that will certainly make your heart beats go faster. So, do not miss this heart thumping competition as you will definitely be amazed with the performances.
To complete the Chinese New Year Celebration, there will be a God of Prosperity Appearance from 29 January – 1 February to shower the shoppers with loads of prosperity. So do head over to Gurney Plaza with your loved ones to celebrate the festive season with happiness and joy.
