The Chitrapournami Festival will be celebrated at the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple (Hill Top), Waterfall Road, Penang from 16th April to 18th April 2011. In the evening of Saturday, Lord Balathadayuthapani will leave Arumigu Maha Mariamman Temple at Queen Street on a chariot at 6:00p.m and proceed to the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple (Hill Top) at Waterfall Road.

Chitra Pournami is observed on the full moon day in the month of Chithirai or chaitra corresponding to the English months of April-May, when the asterism Chitra(virginis) holds sway. It is a festival observed to propitiate Chitragupta the chief accountant of Yama, who is believed to record the commissions and omissions by men in order to punish or reward them after their death.

On Sunday morning, it is expected that the devotees will flood the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple (Hill Top) to fulfill their vows after the morning poojai. The praying ceremony will continue for the day until late evening when Lord Balathadayuthapani will be taken on a procession around the temple premises starting 8:00p.m.

On the next day, Lord Balathadayuthapani will leave the Hill Top Temple for the return journey to Arumigu Maha Mariamman Temple at Queen Street starting 6p.m. The Chariot is expected to arrive at the Arumigu Maha Mariamman Temple at about 6:30a.m on Tuesday.
