The long awaited Kung Fu Night will be back again in March this year with the theme “Sacred Heart”. Organised by the USM Kung Fu Club, this annual event showcases performances, by five divisions in the club, which centres around a lively story. From the arts of the fierce Shaolin, the harmonious Taiji and the superb Wushu, to the glorious Drum Team and the enthralling Dragon & Lion Dance, this event will be sure to blow-away martial arts enthusiasts.
Performances this year includes Shaolin's art of “Tai Chi Plum Blossom Praying Mantis Boxing”; Young Style and Chen Style Taiji; Wushu’s art of “Chang Quan”, “Nan Quan”, broadsword and fencing; drum set performances by the Drum Team; and the “Lotus Dragon” and “Luminous Dragon” dances by Dragon & Lion Team. There will also be a lucky draw session and other special performances.
The story begins at a village along a river in the land of the Han Dynasty where five tribes live. Each tribe is represented by a different mascot: the fish, the snake, the horse, the eagle and the deer. Although in the same village, they often argue about who is the greatest among them all and fight to gain supremacy of the village. One day, a drought happened, causing the water of the river to dry up. Each tribe tried all ways to pray to the Gods for rain but to no avail. Until one day, a prophet appears and hints to them a way to pray for rain, saying that the day the Red Dragon appears is the day it will rain. Soon, the five tribes realised that only their unity will lead to the appearance of the legendary Red Dragon.
