The year 2008 proved to have produced good results for tourism in Penang, as last year saw the state receive 6.3mil in tourist arrival according to hotel statistics, which excludes tourists those who visit Penang on cruises, day trips, or live with friends & relatives, as compared to 5.1mil in 2007. The benefit of the increase comes from being ignited with the UNESCO World Heritage City status on 7th July last year.

Managing to attract droves of foreign and domestic tourists, Penang is currently ranked at No.4 in tourists arrivals in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur, Pahang and Sabah. Thanks to the newly launched Air Asia Direct flight from Penang to Macau, Penangites can now look forward to flying to Macau hassle free.
