Chinese New Year Message from YB Mr Danny Law Heng Kiang
Chairman of the State Tourism Development and Culture Committee

Gong Xi Fa Cai! May the Year of The Tiger come prancing in to usher manifold wealth and good fortune!

From the first day of Chinese New Year which also falls on Valentine’s Day, 14th February, right up to the last weekend of February, Penang will be bustling with activities and celebrations for both the locals and our visitors from within and out of the country.

Among the highlighted events include the Penang Chief Minister Open House Party at Komtar Walk which will be held on 14th Feb 2010 from 10am; the  Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration which will be held from 3.00 pm to midnight on 20th February along Armenian Street and Cannon Street and also MY PENANG CNY Reunion Celebration 2010 and Chap Goh Meh Celebration which will take place on 27th and 28th February at Esplanade from 5.30 pm until late night.

Jointly organised by the State Government and GO International and co-hosted by MY Astro, themed “For the love of Penang, come home’, the MY PENANG CNY Reunion Celebration 2010 and Chap Goh Meh Celebration promises to mark the culmination of the Chinese New Year celebration with nothing less than spectacular performances by celebrities from Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur, cultural and contemporary variety shows, a fashion bazaar and full moon street party.

For more details on the many colourful and vibrant cultural celebrations organised during this auspicious month, just click on the PDF copy of our Reunion in Penang flyer.

With the festive mood around the corner, don’t forget to bring your cameras to capture the beauty of Penang as we illuminate the streets of Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Light Street, Esplanade, Weld Quay and Gurney Drive with flickering white LEDs (light emitting diodes)!

Happy Chinese New Year and here’s wishing you a happy and prosperous year!
