This July 24th & 25th, come and witness a new dragon boat event held for the very first time - the 1st Club Crew Championship for Commonwealth Countries at the Teluk Bahang Dam, organised by the Penang International Dragon Boat Festival Committee.
Appointed by the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) for this event to be organised in Penang, the 1st Club Crew Championship for Commonwealth Countries welcomes a total of 30 local and foreign teams to Penang over the exciting weekend.
This event sees participating teams from Commonwealth countries India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada including local teams from Penang, Putrajaya, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Perak as well as Non-Commonwealth countries such as Indonesia, Philippines UAE, Germany, Macau, Taiwan and more.
Also held during the two-day event is the Asian Games Dragon Boat Selection Race which was appointed by the Malaysian Olympic Council for Penang to host; in order to select a winning team in representing Malaysia at the upcoming Asian Games, Guangzhou in November 2010. The winning team for this selection race will be chosen by the Malaysian Olympic Council to represent Malaysia at the Asian Games for the first time included dragon boat race in the games and that team will be competing in its 250m, 500m and 1000m category.
The Main Sponsor for the 1st Club Crew Championship for Commonwealth Countries 2010 is Pasific West who have sponsored the event apparels as well as part of the event publicity materials. During the event, Pasific West food and beverage delights are available for sale at the event venue including their imported sorbet together with other merchandises. Proceeds of the sales made by Pasific West will go towards Sri Cahaya Orphanage Home & the Children Protection Society. In which, Pasific West is hoping to give away more than RM2,500, of the sales made, to each home. Besides that, Indocafe will also be distributing free drinks to the participants and the spectators at the race.
So come on over and join in the excitement & anticipation of Penang's local tradition since the 1950's! Events begin from 8am till 6pm on 24th July and from 10am till 5pm on 25th July.
