Like in most parts of the world, the Christian population in Malaysia will be celebrating Christmas Day this coming 25th of December to commemorate the birth of Lord Jesus Christ. Christmas here is usually spent with family and friends; and it known as the love, giving and forgiving. During Christmas eve, families gather and have a special family dinner, with a mix of western dishes and local delicacies such as beef rendang and chicken curry. It is then customary to attend the midnight mass or Christmas service at their local church. In Malaysia, like any other festivals, it is common for families or companies to host “ Christmas Open House” where friends from different faiths will pay them a visit to enjoy delicious food and sometimes exchange gifts. Do keep in mind that some hotels and restaurants around Penang will be hosting their own Christmas activities including special Christmas buffets and promotions. You can find the list of hotels in Penang on our website or follow this link directly http://www.visitpenang.gov.my/portal3/where-to-stay/accommodations-in-penang.html The Penang State Tourism Development and Culture Office would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a joyous Christmas Celebration and a Happy New Year!
