Date: 30th March to 1st April 2012 Venue: Penang Botanic Gardens Fans of salsa music should make a date with Columbian artist, Maite Hontele, at the upcoming Penang World Music Festival 2012. Best to bring along your dancing shoes for her danzon, son, Latin and Colombian jazz beat will surely get you dancing to the energetic tempo. Starting to play the trumpet at a tender age of 14, Maite grew up surrounded by Cuban music being a daughter of a musician. A graduate from the Conservatory of Rotterdam, Maite’s skill and versatility is in danzon, son, Latin and Colombian jazz. Her first musical venture was by joining the brass band in her neighborhood and later on she performed in various concerts and festival around Colombia where she now resides. Maite will be performing at the festival on the 30th of March (Friday) and 1st of April 2012 (Sunday). Organised by the Penang State Tourism Development and Culture Office, the festival promised to be exciting event with an impressive line-up of well known international and local musicians coming together to serenade the festival goers. The other performers Wild Marmalade (Australia), Loyko (Russia), Kalja Riddim Clan (Vanuatu), Will Crummers & The Rarotonga (New Zealand), Griff Trio (Belgium),Beoga (Ireland) and many more! With music genre ranging from blues to salsa and reggae, the upcoming PWMF 2012 is definitely not to be missed! The Penang State Tourism Development and Culture Office hopes to get the support of all Penangites to purchase the tickets to this exciting event! Tickets to the festival are available at www.ticketxpress.com.my, Penang Tourism Office, Level 53 KOMTAR, Tourist Information Centre, Beach Street Penang, Switch Outlets (http://switch.com.my/), Members of MATTA, Penang Botanic Gardens, Discovery Overland Holidays. Tickets are priced at RM90 per day for adult and R45 per day for a child age between five and 12 years old. Three-day ticket is priced at RM220 each for adult and RM120 each for a child.
