Penang World Music Festival  2012
30
th of March 2012- 1st of April 2012

Be prepared to be blown away by Guinea’s finest master percussionists, musicians, dancers, acrobats and contortionists as they come together to bring you nothing less than an electrifying performance at the Penang World Music Festival 2012.

Founded in 2005, this 12-member band will feature the djembe, balafon, doundoun, kenkeni, krin, flute and bote and more, making their music very upbeat in tempo. Guinea percussionists are universally known and respected for their skills, speed and talent and their rhythms are played all over the world.

They usually include their rich cultural tradition in their act by interweaving their performance with energetic dance movement and at time, showcase as a storytelling. This is their way of sharing African’s rich cultural legacy; through music, dance and storytelling.

Band founder Mamoudou Conde feels it is very important for them to educate the public, especially the younger generation, about their culture so that the wisdom and value of this civilisation is spread and honoured throughout the world.

Guinee Percussion is one of the 18 bands to look out for at the festival which will be held from March 30 to April 1 at the Quarry Recreational Park, Botanic Gardens in Penang. The festival is organised by the Penang State Tourism Development and Culture Office, with the aim to further boost Penang’s tourism industry. UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd (UComms) has been appointed as the festival’s event management consultant.

Tickets to the festival are available at www.ticketxpress.com.my, Penang Tourism Office at Level 53 KOMTAR, Penang Visitor’s Centre at Beach Street, Switch (Gurney Plaza & Queensbay Mall), MATTA Office, Penang Botanic Gardens and Discovery Overland Holidays.

Tickets are priced at RM90 per adult and RM45 per child (age five to 12) for the one-day pass. For the three-day pass, tickets are priced at RM220 per adult and RM120 per child.
