This year, the marathon will be held on 18 November 2012. Every year, thousands of marathon enthusiasts be it amateur or professional, local or international, have made the event a success. As old as the Penang Bridge itself, PBIM has been attracting people from all over the world regardless of age and background since September 1985. Last year, total number of participants reached up to 27,500 runners compared to 24,000 in year 2010 and 19,000 in year 2009. "Allianz is excited to be involved in the APBIM for the second consecutive year. We strongly believe that the marathon is an ideal platform for us to create better awareness on the importance of practicing a healthy lifestyle amongst Malaysians", said Mr Jens Reisch, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad. The categories of the PBIM include a full marathon, half marathon, 10k marathon and a Fun Run. The full marathon is open to men and women above the age of 18 years with a choice of open and veteran running category. For the half marathon, it is also open to men and women above the age of 18 year, while the 10k marathon is divided into open (aged 18 and above) and junior (aged 13 and above) categories.
