Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative in partnership with WWF that began in 2007 in Sydney Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses switched off their lights for one hour from 8.30pm, to take a stand against climate change. In 2014, Earth Hour will take place on 29th March
Role of Earth Hour in mitigating climate change Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative that encourages individuals, businesses and governments to show leadership on environmental solutions through their actions, to use Earth Hour as a platform to showcase to the world what measures they are taking to reduce their environmental impact.
A 3.5-km night walk along the city’s Heritage Trail and the “I Will If You Will” pledge to plant 60 trees offour endangered species are the two highlights of Earth Hour 2014 in Penang.
While individuals and businesses are encouraged to switch off non-essential lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm as a symbolic gesture to mark Earth Hour, those who are more adventurous are invited to take part in the 3.5-km night walk along the Heritage Trail in Georgetown.
The starting point is Jalan Padang Kota Lama, through Lebuh Light, Lebuh Farquhar, Lebuh Leith, Lebuh Chulia and Lebuh Pantai, before joining back again to Lebuh Light and ending at Jalan Padang Kota Lama.
The State Executive Councillor has pledged to walk with the people if 1000 or more participants register for the walk on http://pandashop.my/eh2014walk. The registration fee of RM60 per person, to be paid via an online payment gateway, will entitle each participant to a “Earth Hour 60+” t-shirt and sticker, and an e-certificate of participation. The Penang Amateur Athletic Association (PAAA) serves as the technical advisor of the walk.
Auto-City will be taking part in a global movement of Earth Hour together with Jit Sit independent school , Ivy Make up & Beauty Academic ,YB Lydia Ong Kok Fooi (ADUN Berapit) & YB Ong Chin Wen to stand united with 30 F&B outlet for Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (local time). Imagine F&B outlet turning its lights out almost simultaneously for one hour with candle lighting dinner. Also, local artist Vivian Chua will be joining us for this event , “IF” CD Album promo tour 45 minutes , 2-3 Songs + Games Session + Signature Session.
