Date: 15-16 August 2015
Venue: Jalan Jeti Lama, Butterworth
George Town Festival will expand its reach across the water this year, as it introduces its newest satellite event, the Butterworth Fringe Festival or BFF. Scheduled to be held on August 15th and 16th, the inaugural BFF will give visitors and locals alike a chance to see a different side of Penang, while showcasing Butterworth as an exciting new venue for arts and culture events. Penang’s mainland will provide the backdrop for an events-packed weekend featuring an exclusive line-up of outrageously creative performances, installations and exhibitions.
The weekend will feature a number of performances and art installations from both local and international artists, musicians, designers and collaborators. Belgium’s t.r.a.n.s.i.t.s.c.a.p.e.s dance troupe will perform their highly original Urban Distortions, an experimental and interactive theatre performed inside plastic bubbles. In Cette Immense Intimité, by French aerial dance group Retouramont, a solo Aerial dancer will gracefully perform while suspended in mid-air against the backdrop of a shadowy wall. Malaysian art duo TerryandTheCuz will feature their award winning. Welcome2Flatland installation, giving visitors an interactive insight into contemporary views of multiculturalism.
Other highlights include a month-long exhibition on Butterworth’s famous ferry, which will include a pop-up café and a visual history of the ferry through the years. Many of the features at BFF will allow the audience to interact and look closely at these incredible art pieces from around the world. BFF hope that these highly engaging performances and installations provide a creative inspiration to all Festival participants, and encourage them to take a further interest in the arts.”
