Date:  15 – 30 April

Venue:  Lebuh Pantai, Jalan Kelawai and Gurney Paragon Mall

The inaugural Penang International Food Festival (PIFF2017) of sizzling food and culture will be held over 16 days from the 15th to 30th April 2017 where its main venues are at Lebuh Pantai, Jalan Kelawai and Gurney Paragon Mall.

Visitors can experience and indulge in Penang’s famed food and culture. Each weekend will have a theme, namely, ‘Savour the Past’, ‘Enjoy the Present’ and ‘Relish the Future’ – foods of the past, present and future will be brought together to sizzle and excite taste buds the Penang way. There will also be pocket events held at other venues throughout the 16 days.

The festival is organised by TLM Event with the endorsement of the Penang State Government and the support of Penang Island City Council (MBPP) as well as Penang Global Tourism. As Penang is especially famous for its street food the world over owing to its incredible taste, variety and quality, PIFF2017 aims to promote and establish Penang as Asia’s food capital.

Foodies from near and far can look forward to the variety of cuisines from Penang’s multi-ethnic and cultures, ranging from traditional, modern to fusion cooking. From humble hawker stalls at the sidewalk to highly acclaimed restaurants, PIFF2017 will offer an entire range of tastes, flavours and textures of Penang. Not only will palates be satisfied, but knowledge will be broadened, as exhibitions and performances will be included to explain the cultural origins of the various dishes available in Penang.

As highlighted earlier, there will be separate themes or events to showcase the extensive variety of food available in Penang, as well as to reflect how food was, is, and will continue to be an important part of what makes Penang Asia’s food capital. Details of the three main themes or events of the festival are as follows:

The Street Food Festival brings you the best of Penang's hawker fare. Foodies to Lebuh Pantai will be taken back in time to the 1970s where they can enjoy delicacies enhanced by nostalgia. The festival will bring together hawkers who have honed their skills through the years to ensure only the best is available. Come join us and dine “alfresco” as how people did in the olden days!

Our take on dining in the present! The best names in the food and beverage industry will be here at one of Penangites' favourite hangouts. Showcasing an array of cooking styles, from cafes to restaurants and hawkers to food trucks, Taste of Penang will present a sizzling gastronomic and unforgettable experience. To top the evening’s joy, there'll be performances by international and local buskers to ensure you a melodious and memorable evening.

Cuisines continue to sizzle and evolve to suit our ever-changing tastes. They will showcase their knowledge and skills by creating new and palatable dishes and drinks via exciting and fun- filled competitions such as a Latte Art Championship, Cocktail Making Competition and Cooking Competition. The Festival will also be star-struck as celebrity chefs will put a spin on well-known dishes! So, what does the future hold? Perhaps the next big food trend will be triggered at the Fringe Food Festival.

In addition to the three main themed events, there will be twenty over pocket events comprising workshops, tours, artisanal markets, meeting of experts and more. These pocket events will be carried out at various locations throughout the 16 days of the festival where visitors can participate.
