Picture, if you will, English ladies in long, flowing muslin dresses walking in the manicured grounds of Suffolk House 200 years ago, parasols held aloft to protect their fair skin against the blazing tropical sun.

This may well have been the scene at the ‘Great House of Penang’ built in 1805 by William Edwards Phillips on what was once a pepper plantation owned by Captain Francis Light.

 Phillips went on to become a Governor of Penang, and the building served as a Government House.

 At night, strategically positioned lights highlight the beautifully restored building set next to the Air Itam River.

There is a fair share of hotels in town celebrating the fasting month of Ramadhan and Hard Rock Hotel Penang is attracting its clientele with its Bintang Rock Buffet. Running from 9th July till 9th August 2013, diners can look forward to a buka puasa feast with great mixture of appetizers, main courses and desserts at the Starz Diner.



Prices for the Bintang Rock Buffet are very reasonable, at RM68++ per adult and RM34++ per child (4 – 12 years old) and it is available from 6:30 pm...

It was a night with awesome wines and lots of food at the Castello Banfi wine dinner organized by fine wine and spirits distributor Asiaeuro Wines and Spirits at Spasso Milano, Straits Quay.

Executive Chef Felice Martinelli presents a five-course meal of game, seafood and vegetables to complement the Italian wine by Italy's award winning wine family – Castello Banfi Wines.

That’s because, as proprietor Diana Chin puts it: “We serve tasty home-cooked Hakka food which everyone enjoys.”

Hot Bowl is home to Penang Curry Mee and Pek Cham Kei. This place located in Abu Siti Lane offers mouth-watering curry mee. Their version affectionately known to locals as White Curry Mee comes with a lighter pale color coconut based broth.

The business is run by Mr Ho Peng Song and he has been selling the curry mee for over two decades. The curry mee is served with dried tofu pok (tau pok), cuttlefish, pig’s coagulated blood cubes and bloody cockles.
